THE VANILLA ISLANDS ORGANISATION HAS THE MISSION OF CONTRIBUTING TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM IN THE INDIEN OCEAN AND TO PROMOTE STANDARDS OF QUALITY AND SERVICE.

To allow the development of inter-island combined efforts, spearheading its activity, it is essential to put trust in both tourism professionals and consumers.

For this reason, Xavier-Luc Duval, Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius and President of the Vanilla Islands, announced upon taking office on 10 June, that a mandate was given to the Mauritius Tourism Authority and especially to its President Robert Desvaux to establish a classification system for all tourist accommodations. This ranking process will start on the island of Mauritius in the next few days and will quickly expand to the other islands and become the reference in the Indian Ocean. Representatives from the Seychelles and Madagascar have already made it clear that they will support this effort. Gateways are planned with Atout France’s classification for Reunion Island and Mayotte, in order to present harmonization between the islands.

This Vanilla Islands label will give confidence to tour operators and various customers, by an official guarantee of quality of service and comfort.

According to Pascal Viroleau, the organisation’s director, “We will be able to say, for example, that a three-star hotel in Mauritius corresponds to a three-star hotel in Madagascar, as well as the other islands.”
